I’m quoted in the New York Times (!!!) talking about our Day-of Styling package and what that means to creative couples who are making a lot of the decor for their weddings. The article, Your Hand in Marriage, shares stories of couples who DIYed a lot of elements for their own weddings and talks to industry pros, like Vane from Brooklyn Bride and Darcy Miller from Martha Stewart Weddings, about the personal implications of taking on such a large project.
This is why we offer a smaller option than the all-inclusive Wedding Design service. We call it Day-of Styling.
Based on my own wedding experience, I made it up to help other crafty couples. When I was married in 2009, I spent the six months before making the centerpieces, sourcing props, gathering candles from flea markets, designing menus and paper goods and drink stirrers, etc. When our wedding day came, my lovely family was on hand the day before to help us set everything up in our very accommodating venue. I had family to help, we got married locally, our guest count was a modest 85 people, and our venue let us come in the day before to decorate and breakdown the day after. Not all couples are blessed with this magical formula. That’s where we come in.
“Day-of Styling. What??? I don’t understand.”
We meet with you a month before your wedding and go over all of the incredible decor you’ve been working on. We recommend rental props and additional pieces to fill in any holes and really make your wedding feel like YOU. On the day of your wedding, while you are getting dressed and posing for photographs, we set-up all of that decor you created. We manage other creative vendors you might have: guide the lighting team to install those cafe lights exactly right, style your invitation in a beautiful way for your photographer to capture, and give a helping hand to the florist when needed.
“Are we the type of couple who would benefit from this service?”
Our dream clients for day-of styling are creative couples who are sourcing, gathering, designing, and making all or most of their wedding decor. They are wildly creative, have an eye for design, love making things, and couldn’t be more excited to marry each other. This includes centerpieces, escort cards, installations, backdrops, candy buffet materials, favors, menus, table linens, signage, etc.
“Our photographer/caterer/florist said they would put out the 150 individual favors I made/carefully place one handmade paper flower on each place setting/grab a photo of our invitation.”
Great! Although, I recommend to let the creatives you hired concentrate on what they were hired to do. What you don’t see on a wedding day is the craziness of the hours before guests arrive. The catering staff is polishing silverware as fast as they can, your florist is adjusting your centerpieces after they were jolted around in her truck, and your photographer is capturing your first look. Let them do the jobs you hired them to do. Let us carefully place the handmade paper flowers you made, style your invitation that took you hours to make, and tastefully place your favors on a table decorated with props we brought in especially for your wedding.
“We are making all of the decor for our wedding and then setting it up ourselves. I don’t need you.”
Super! It sounds like you have a team of friends of family who are willing to take art direction from you and your partner to set-up all of that awesome decor you have. It also sounds like you are getting married at a venue that will let you decorate the day before or hours before your wedding starts, then they will let you or family and friends take it all down and clean it up the next day.
“Our venue is giving us an hour to decorate and an hour to breakdown.”
During those hours you will be getting married and parting. Let us make the venue shine and style the decor, florals, and installations that you created.
“What’s the cost?”
Starts at $2,000. Includes a venue walk-through, sourcing of additional rental props if needed, set-up and breakdown of all your provided wedding decor, special surprises, less stress for yourself, help for your other creative vendors, piece of mind. Brooklyn Winery Wedding Shoot
The women that run Revel always come up with the most elegant, head turning ideas. When they proposed creating a hanging gold leaf installation over a dining table at Brooklyn Winery I immediately signed on to do the flowers and styling. We collaborated with BHLDN for the props, had brklyn view photography blow us away with photography, and brought on Everly Calligraphy to write beautiful escort cards. We used an invitation suite from Minted that perfectly fit our lavender color scheme.
Brooklyn Winery is an amazing restaurant venue in Williamsburg. They make their own wine and serve the most delicious food. Their space is a mix of rustic, modern, and Brooklyn-chic all rolled into one.
Liberty Warehouse Wedding / Jenna and Brad
Jenna and Brad were married at Liberty Warehouse on the water in Brooklyn. Jenna is a remarkably creative and resourceful bride who scoured flea markets for hundreds of candle sticks, spray painted them all white or black, and created some kick ass modern decor for her wedding. I helped her refine her modern black and white concept by filling in her ideas with unique ideas of my own. I created a dramatic paper flower and black and white fringe ceremony backdrop, decorated her tables with a black/white/gold fringe runners, and tied the same fringe on each guest chair. We brought on modern, white lounge furniture and gave each guest a sparkler to enjoy on the large outdoor patio.
