Bat Mitzvah at Sunset Terrace
Besides weddings, designing Bat Mitzvahs has become my absolute favorite thing that I get to do. It’s no surprise that 13 year old girls have a similar aesthetic to a few things that I love: shine, color, being unique, and personalized everything. Elizabeth’s Bat Mitzvah at Sunset Terrace at Chelsea Piers was no exception. She wanted pink, purple, shiny gold polka dots, fringe, and disco balls. And these things we gave her.
I designed Elizabeth’s mom’s 40th birthday party a few years ago. It was an honor to be able to have a part in another one of their family celebrations. Their true New Yorker style came out in the venues they chose: Lincoln restaurant for the luncheon and Sunset Terrace for the party. From Lincoln Center down to Chelsea Piers, we brought bright contemporary pops of pink and purple.
The party at Sunset Terrace was full of custom, personalized details. They said YES PLEASE to my crazy ideas of a custom polka dot dance floor and a pink fringe installation across the entire ceiling. We got a little kitchy with a mix of Yiddish and teenager-slogan custom made wooden text around the room. The flowers were kept simple, yet gorgeous, with big pink peonies in white geometric vases. And of course, some disco balls scattered around the room, because no party is complete without a few disco balls.
The images from January Stewart perfectly reflect the super fun filled day that Elizabeth and her family had.
