Elle and Daryl / Studio450 Wedding
Elle and Daryl were married at Studio450 in New York City in a destination wedding. Yep, not all destination weddings are at the beach. The couple lives in Australia and their friends and family were coming in from California. New York City was a kind of “halfway around the world” meeting spot for everyone. The joy of designing this wedding was that Elle, the bride, is a fashion stylist. Her eye for design, incredible inspiration images, and high-end taste level let my team really run wild with the aesthetics of her wedding. Plus, Studio450 is a complete blank slate. It’s literally a big, glossy, white room filled with windows. Designer’s dream location, check.
The photographer, Danila Mednikov, brilliantly captured the gritty aspects of NYC while keeping the images bright and modern. We brought in real live trees to fill in the space and to hang escort cards from. The ceremony arch, rented from Two of A Kind, was decorated by us with whimsical greenery and a few white flowers. Pillar candles and lanterns brought a bit of romantic sparkle to the ceremony on top of vintage turkish rugs.
The plants, trees, vintage furniture from Patina Rentals, tons of greenery, and lanterns all made for the bohemian, urban, contemporary look the couple craved.
Here is a lesson for couples deciding on their food service: Family style dinners are going to extremely prohibit the amount and size of decor you will be able to put on the tables. The platters are often large, therefore, you have to leave room for them to be able to be put down on the table without a centerpiece in the way. Elle and Daryl’s dinner was served family style. We did a simple silk runner down the center of the wooden tables then dotted the runner with crystal bud vases of white flowers and greenery. The simple decor was effective on the beautiful wooden tables, especially since we had a large installation of greenery across the ceiling.
